The Kessler Craftsman Updates
|
 |
|
Thanks to all of the folks that came by the booth. I sold 15 candleholders, a flat firescreen and made lots of new friends..particlularly the little ones that like to see me solder glass!
Welcome to those of you who signed up on my mailing list. "Junk mail for life"...smile.
If you're interested in stained glass classes/instruction, please e-mail me. I anticipate doing two classes; one in the early spring and one in early summer. I'll limit the class size to five participants.
I'll also be doing a mosaic class for Moms and Kids. There's been lots of questions about teaching the little ones the art of stained glass..but with the 1300 degree soldering irons, the strength required to cut glass, and the lead exposure issue, mosaic work is a much better option with almost the same results! Let me know if you're interested. This class will be limited to 4 Moms and 1 kiddo per Mom!

The Kessler Craftsman will be participating in the Oak Cliff Artisans fall show on Saturday and Sunday, November 20 & 21. Come and see my beutiful candle-holders, my new fireplace screens and pictures of my furniture...I can't keep it in stock...it sells too fast!! I guess I should build more or raise the price..smile.
I hope to see you there!

A belated Happy New Year.
I've been busy! For the November Oak Cliff Artisans (OCA) show I created and sold 55 stained glass and hardwood votive candle holders...all made by me! The high points during the show involved a lady asking me to make hers while she watched..a rare opportunity for me to create someone's commission, albeit a small one, completely in their presence.
More candle holders, fireplace screens, lamps and sconces are in production...watch the site or come to the next show:
Saturday, May 1st, 2004 at Kidd Springs Recreation Center, in the heart of Oak Cliff on Sylvan Avenue. Call me at 214-942-7322 or e-mail me at misteroldhouse@aol.com for directions.
I've also stocked the shop with 80 sheets of beautiful glass; some nice clear glue chip, some primo clear seedy and a broad range of colors of Wissmach English Muffle and Spectrum hammered glass.
I've started selling stained glass tools and supplies on E-Bay..check out my auctions or e-mail me if your in the market for Toyo oil-fed cutters, ceramic-element soldering irons or other tools & supplies.
This spring I'll also be offering a limited number of stained glass classes for beginners and advanced amateurs.
Stay tuned! |

The outside of the shop is officially done! Since the last writing, I've finished all of the sheetrock, painted the interior, painted the exterior (see the portfolio section for the painted shop pictures) and the exterior trim and have built an EXCELLENT wood storage system using 3/4" plumbing pipe. I celebrated by buying 350 board feet of quartersawn White Oak and beautiful Black Cherry!
I've completed the repairs on a beautiful old church window owned by Jerry Gilmore. See the "before" and "after" comparison picture in the portfolio section.
I'm busy at work on a piece that is patterned after an old Navajo rug owned by Elmer Powell, a Kessler resident. I'm also working on some picture frames, a queen-sized mission bed and some small low-cost votive candle holders (wood and glass) that I'll sell at an upcoming craft show.
I have a new 18" Laguna bandsaw on its' way....It will be named "ForestGirl"...after the Knots Forum member who gave me supreme advice on building my wood rack. Of course I gave her grief for weeks about her rack...smile.
I hope all is well. Take care and have fun. Fall is here! |

Happy June!
The shop has 110 and 220 power! All of the wiring, save the overhead lights is done. I've put in 35 rolls of "pink death" fiberglass insulation and hung about 30 sheets of 4X8 sheetrock!
I'm starting to work on two projects: One, a stained glass piece patterned after a Navajo rug. The other, a complex repair task on an old church window from St. Louis. Watch the site for progress.

I'm pleased to announce that six of my pieces will be on display and for sale at the La Mesa Gallery in Cedar Hill.
This is a brand new gallery being opened by Brenda and Gary Kindrick. The opening day is June 1. Please come if you can...support the arts..and the galleries that support the artists!
I've placed the Mission Spindle Coffee Table, a "Windomere" lamp with American Black Cherry Base and a "Windomer" lamp with a White Oak prairie-style base and matching art glass insert. Also on display are three stained/leaded glass pieces: "Prairie Wheat", "Musclebound" and "Three Tulips".
Check it out!
The La Mesa Gallery is at 408B W. Beltline in Cedar Hill.
To get there, take 67 south from Dallas, go all the way to Belt line road, go west approximately 1-2 miles. The gallery is in a small carriage house behind a yellow Victorian building. The gallery phone number is 972-293-9044. |
|
As of yesterday, the shop passed the final inspection. WooHoo!!! The tools and equipment move back in next week...very exciting times!
The LaMesa Gallery opens on May 1, 2003. Located in Cedar Hill, Texas (just south of Dallas), this gallery has agreed to show one of my Mission Coffee tables, two lamps and three panels. They also have great pottery, prints and photos, other glass art... Please go check them out! Their phone number is: 972-293-9044. Be sure to check them out!! |

The Shop now has a painted floor, most of the code-required electrical wiring, and will be done tomorrow..if it passes inspection.
As soon as I learn how to FTP, I'll post some pictures of the shop! |
|
The Shop is, in essence, done. The siding is up, the electrical rough inspection is complete. All we need to do is the framing, the final electrical and the final "certificate of occupancy".
I'm ready to lay in the second floor, do the wiring, paint the floor, paint the outside, hang the lights, insulate, sheetrock and move in!!!! Not necessarily in that order.
We've installed a basketball goal....Stacy is happy...each evening she beats me at HORSE..really sucks! |
|
Believe it or not, the contractor says "one or two more days" until the shop is finished! Can you believe it?
As of today, the garage door and opener have been installed, the entry door installed (and it even locks!!!), the windows and skylights have been installed, and 1/2 of the siding on one wall has been installed. Oh, and the electrical "roughing" is complete.
All that's left for phase 1 is to finish the siding and the inspections.
Then I have to install the sheetrock and the electrical wiring and move all the tools back in! |
|
The show was today...and was very well attended..a big success.
It was great to meet all the fine folks that dropped by the booth!
Thanks and congratulations to the new owner of the Mission-style sofa table...I'm also excited about designing the Navajo Rug stained glass window.
Thanks to my friends Stacy, Michelle and Debra, Jackie and Rusty, Mary and Paul, Vickie, Sandy, all of the Oak Cliff Artisans.....and all of my new friends!!!
